Fuel related noise 1985 Series 3
Hello all.
This is my first post here so please make allowances. I have what is best described as a drumming noise coming from my fuel lines which seems to be in sync with the pulse of the injectors. Using a listening stick it can be heard at the fuel rail, the fuel pipe in the engine bay and at the one-way valve in the boot (trunk). The sound can't normally be heard outside of the car but can be heard as a muffled "brrrrrrrr" inside the car with doors closed. Only annoying because the Jag is so quiet otherwise.
Doug Dwyer on another site had what appeared to be the same problem but I could not find any solution that had been posted. So if anyone can assist me, that would be appreciated.

Not ringing any bells....but my memory isn't what it used to be. Nothing about me it what is used to be
Sometimes a slight re-positioning of the pipes...a tweak here, slight bend there....is all that's needed to silence harmonic noises. Just enough to slightly alter the flow characteristics of whatever is running thru them.
The one way valve in the air bleed assembly might come into play, yes.....I'd have to do some mulling on that.
A fuel pump working against a clogged filter or other restriction might set up some kind of resonance or vibration, perhaps?
The injectors pulse in mere milliseconds so I don't think anything in the fuel delivery system can respond in harmony with them....but I'm no scientist

Thanks for the prompt reply Doug. No problem with the recollection (the original thread I referred to was back in 2003).
You have given me some points to ponder and hopefully I can post a result here.
Good to "catch-up" again.
Cheers

Finally coming back with some findings. Managed to get a good look under the car and Doug was right, as usual - four of the clips holding the fuel pipe to the body had broken rivets. Replaced them and all seems well. Many thanks.Doug.
