Default fun with the unknown v12

I picked up this 74 XJ12L lots of chewed wires under hood, the car needs a lot of work and will get it. wanted to keep the V12 only 4700 built in 74 so I found after 3 days of just trying to get it to turn over..... I spot 2 blue wires going under the floor mat on the right side... it was a push button guess what it does..lol well the car runs needs a tune up then it is on to try and find a replacement key start. pulling old one to clean up or redo. don't know when I would have found the push button if I was not pulling apart the dash and starting work on full interior redo.

@ken

It's always difficult on these old things when you can't talk to the previous owner. I have fiddled with so much on my XJS it would take hours to explain it to any future buyer.

Good luck with the resto. The XJ12 is a rare animal.

It's nice to see a 74 up and running. I've got one here in St. Louis. I think the old carby v12s run better than the EFI variants. Turbine smooth.

Default fired up quick

with little more then a new (holly) fuel pump it fires up and idles like it was running 1 hour ago not 7-8 years. the V12 has no oil leaks just lots of dust. and just purrs... note looks like all 4 carbs leak need to look into it worry that the holly pump pushing up to 7psi may be to much will look into it more, anyone have any other ideas to check, will start putting up picks soon, was waiting to find out about the motor and didn't take the time to take pics to hyped up about it. interior is trashed but will send pics of all as I go on.
known so far starter has push button will be rewiring to key start. still trying to work thru the cluster of tubes and wires in the trunk 2 tanks, 2 fuel pumps, ect. right now I have 1 pump hooked up to the passanger side tank.
PLEASE tell me is there a better way to run this ? thinking about a tank valve from a chey pu may make it work or do I need to run the 2 pump octopus, anyone know?

one last thing on the speedo top # are all 0000000's and the lower are 24000 is the top # a trip meter? just want to know if this thing may have only 24k miles. like I said the motor runs and looks (other then dirt) like new. no grease, oils or any kind of buildup

Fuel pressure at 7 psi is kind of high. The pressure regulator should step it down to about 2 1/2 but may be overwhelmed. I think the stock SU pumps put out about 5 psi but they have a high volume.
