differences in I, II, & III XJ6
Newbie here....and hope I've reached the right section.
Had some questions about a 1986 XJ6 front-end only (no car, just bought the front-end a'y) ; but need to determine if it's a I, II, or III. Is there a way to tell which it is by just the IFS? This one has white-colored gas spring-shocks. The main springs have some purple paint on them.
The plan is to use components of the XJ6 IFS in another vehicle.
I'll be needing some parts.......hub/spindle seals, ball-joint seals (boots)
And some other info.
thanks in advance. Big thanks to Norri & Graham (GGG) for welcoming me in.

There are a few ways to tell which series it came from....
Have a look at the steering rack, if its a tall rack (about 6-8"), it came from a Series 1 to mid Series 2 (around 77 or so).. If it's a short rack (about 4"), it came from a late Series 2 or Series 3.
There also differences in the brake calipers..
One thing to note, The Series points to a year range in which the car was made. So a Series 1 is from 68-73, Series 2 from 74-79(ish), and Series 3 from 79-87.
As far as the parts go, any of the components from 79-87 should be compatible with your IFS, as long as it was from an 86 model.
I've sold a lot of the IFS to individuals looking for hot rod applications, and have gotten some interesting feedback from them. I think some of the most interesting applications are in the old (48-50) Ford trucks. They claim to be a direct bolt on application.
Cheers,
David
