Default Guts of the DAC-1607 Ignition - reassembly help

1984 XJ6 4.2 FI, USA version, left hand drive.

Long story short, I developed a problem that was traced (with the help of people on this forum) to the ignition, namely the electronic part. In the parts list (photo below) it's DAC-1607.

I haven't been able to see anything deeper than that. If you go by that image, you see a cylinder with a bunch of wires coming out the back.

DAC 1607 from the parts manual

That cylinder is actually two parts. The back half (which would be closer to the firewall when it's in place) has the wires on it. The front half sits inside the mechanical portion of the ignition lock. The front half rotates and the back half stays in place, so I'm going to call them the rotor and stator respectively.

The rotor has two sides--one has a spring, and this fits against the mechanical lock. The other side has a copper plate with three raised bumps. This fits against the stator, and depending on its position, makes contact with different copper contacts, so different wires are connected depending on the key position.

I have two of these--one is out of my car, and another is out of a junkyard car. The problem with the junkyard car is that someone had gotten to it before me so I picked up the pieces off the floor.

My question is about the piece I call the rotor. Underneath that brass plate I believe are either two or three little black springs. The problem is that if you aren't careful and don't know about them, the little plate comes off and the springs disappear. I recovered two from the floor of my car. I'm wondering if there are more.

My questions,

1. If you look at the photo of the stator with the contact plate off, I've got two springs there but that's just a guess. There are seven or eight little buckets where you can put a spring that size. Are there only two springs? Or is there a third, and they would be positioned to correspond with the three raised divots on the copper contact?

2. When replacing the stator back in the lock, if my head were on the brake pedal and I'm looking into the lockset, what's the orientation of the copper plate? Is the side with two raised divots on the left (closer to the center console) or to the right (closer to the car door)?

Thanks in advance,
-James

Rotor - contact side (mates with the stator)

Rotor - big spring side (mates with the mechanical portion of the ignition lock)

Stator - contact side

Stator, wire side

James,
Let me try this again. I've never gotten that deep into the ignition switch, but your 3 knobs might correspond to

the 3 wires in the S57 schematic. Here's a copy showing witch wire function goes along with which key position. Hope this is of some help.

Thanks, I'll review that diagram.

I went back to the wrecker and found the part I should have bought last time I was there. It was out of the ignition lock assembly so I couldn't verify it's orientation, but I was able to see that it does have three springs, one under each divot on the contact plate. See below.
