Default Euro design WA license plate?

Sorry for the terrible picture, but I followed a guy tonight with what appeared to be an official Washington plate stamped to fit a European spec Audi. The plate clearly said "Washington" across the top, numbers below, and a George Washington silhouette on the left hand side. From the pic you can only make out the shape. Is this right?

I just ran an exhaustive search of our RCW (46.16A.200) and can find no reference to anything but our standard plates, so to the best of my knowledge it is not legal.
I suspect this is 1.) a Novelty Plate, or 2.) a modified plate.
I cannot find the fine for a altered plate in WA, but I see some states consider it a felony.

I've often wondered why Jaguar don't offer alternative luggage compartment lid pressings to accommodate the dimensions of USA and other market registration plates ......

They did for the X350, there's two versions;

One for North America, Japan, Korea & i think China (square-ish shape)

One for the rest of the world (long shape)

Just went over and talked to one of my officers in our police department... It is illegal here in Washington and carries a $215 fine.

Just an FYI,

Strange that someone would risk it. It's not exactly subtle.

Default Euro plates

Did it look like this... Euro design WA license plate?-image.jpg

If so it is indeed illegal. If he had a temporary tag in the car then it might be ignored... Otherwise it could get expensive.

It's a novelty plate sold online.
