How often do you see a Series I, II or III on the road where you live?
It's so rare here I can recall about every instance I've seen one of our cars in the last 4 years. Sadly, I believe it's 4 times total.
That includes this morning when I saw a 1986 XJ6 at the gas station and chatted briefly with the owner.
What's amazing is that the first time I brought my XJ6 home, I had to wait to turn left into my neighborhood due to an oncoming car. As it approached I realized it was a black SIII. Perhaps an omen.
Where I live, the Series 1,2 and 3 have become very very rare.
I can count the times I have seen one alive and kicking on the fingers of one hand.
Soon, I'll be changing that, as I am currently in the proces of restoring my newly acquired Series III V12 Sovereign. Should be on the road in two / three months time...
Did a complete refurbish on the wood panels this week.
The wood venier was completely gone. As it is very hard to get good quality walnut over here, I did what I saw on a Discovery Channel car restauration program:
Sanded the surfboard and radio panel to bare metal. Then applied the red anti-corrosion coating on them, sanded that nice and smooth and covered the whole thing with walnut printed foil. A few coats of clear and it looks like this:

In the eighties, the Series III XJ-6 was pretty common around here.
I knew a few people who had one at the time, leaking tanks and all... ;-)
My dad drove a 1983 XJ VandenPlas Double Six at the time, a local notary traded in his V12 S3 for that ugly XJ40.
There was this man who sold slot machines who drove an XJ-6, the local fish trader had a V12 etc etc.
Like I said, back in those days the Series 3 was pretty common.
Now, some 30 years later, most of the XJ's have rusted beyond recognition over here.
We have a sea climate, which is not very favourable for British steel of the 80's....
On average I'd see maybe one S3 a month on the road, S1 & S2 much less. I agree that many more fair weather/weekend cars are hidden away in garages. There is still a healthy number of survivors around, evidenced at local Jaguar Club Display & Concours days when maybe 50 or so excellent examples of Series XJ6's gather each year. Very few Series cars come onto the market these days and values for really sound examples are climbing steadily

aside from the car i drive and own, i have never seen one on the road
the auto appraiser didnt even know what he was looking at when i had my car done the first time haha
these cars seem to have rotted away from canadian salt, even mine which has under gone 20k in body work, still has some rust kicking around that im finding the deeper i dig
about 3 years ago i saw 3 Sii xj12s at the junk yard! the wrecker wanted 5k a piece to sell me the whole car.... if i were in the position i am now back then, then id have 4 xj's hehehe but alas they were gutted/destroyed sitting there. i found an 87 xj6 a little later and took the seats doors and some trims from it but aside from those i havent seen any other that ones that will never get back on the road

Where we live I have seen a Series I, II, or III only three times in 10 years. We live in a somewhat remote area, but still there are many older vehicles on the road, yet no Jaguars.
Sadly, the last one I saw was a Series III on Pacific Coast Highway, with a tow truck preparing to cart it off. Fortunately it wasn't mine.
Here in northwest Sydney over the last two years I have seen a few series 3's and no 1's or 2's......but as has been said there are some hiding in garages.
Out here in the Wilds of Northern California I have seen 3 in the last 10 years, including Nix. Just last week one appeared for sale in a lumber yard driveway, maroon S3, but as I'm not in the market I haven't stopped to ask. (I'm wondering about its water tightness considering the 3 inches of rain we got)
Even in our Jaguar club there's only one other Xj6, Black Beauty, 1985 S3.
Nix is one of those Fair Weather Jaguars (if there's a cloud in the sky she stays in) and she's not ashamed to admit it. Girls gotta watch their complexion, ya know.
Every Spring when she first comes out of hibernation, she causes more whiplash while driving by than several wrecks. As the season progresses, she gets less notice because she becomes part of the 'normal' traffic pattern.

Apart from mine being a daily driver, there is a red S3 a few streets away that I spot on the road every week or two. And a white XJC I see around every now and then.
A few XJ40's get around these parts.
I see one most weeks. There are 3 others now in my local car club and there is one in the town where we go grocery shopping every Monday ( a yellow one, which is the only yellow one I have ever seen)

This is what I think of whenever I see a yellow XJ6. Though to be accurate it's actually Primrose. But that association alone is enough to stop me ever buying one.
I see one or two a week here in Cheshire, and the cars look as if they are in daily use. This is unusual in the UK because the price of petrol is so steep only long journeys are really viable in these cars. Of course in summer I see them at Jaguar rallies !
