How to replace tail light covers 88 xj6

I found some new tail light covers but don't know how to remove the old ones withough replacing the whole tail lights. I would appreciate any assistance. I've removed the inner assembly (bulb component), just need to know how to remove the outer covers.

How to replace tail light covers

This post is pretty old but I'm going to reply because I just completed this task this weekend. I am a little confused when you say you have removed the bulb component assembly. The reason I say that is on my '86 XJ6 I had to remove four screws, one in each corner of the tail light cover, in order to get to the 3 bolts that held the assembly to the car. So my reply would be you have to remove the four screws holding the cover to the assembly. Mine were brass and very much rounded out but with patience I was able to get them out, I'm going to replace them with stainless steel screws.
