Default Inner joint

Hello.
I am going to changes the inner joint on my Jaguar XJ 6 from 1981 (series 3) but there is a problem I do not understand. On the rack there is a threaded tap on witch I shall mounted the inner joint, in which there is a threaded hole and in the hole there i a spring and a (spacer) washer. Now the question: I do not know what work the spring does and how I shall mounted the inner joint to the racket. So if anyone knows I would be glad to hear from you.

Anders:

It is probably a language and nomenclature issue.

But, I am confused, and I suspect others are as well.

At least three possible.

1. Steering rack?

2. Center drive shaft universal.

3. Transmission mount.

4. One of the rear half shafts in the Independent rear suspension.

Clarify and loads of help will appear. Most with greater skills than mine.

I mean:
Steering rack
innerjoint between the steering rack and tie rod.

Yes, Anders, the link I gave takes you to the specific post that deals with that.

The inner tie rods come with that inner joint attached at the factory;

This is a picture of my old inner rod (top) and the new one (bottom), with the outer tie rod ends installed by me.

When installed on the rack they look like this; outer ends left off to accommodate the protective boots:

As far as I'm aware the large nut assembly on the left of the above picture cannot be bought separately. However, others may have more information.

Yes I recognize that inner rod. When I removed the inner rod there was a spring and a(space)washer inside the inner rod and I am not sure how to mount the inner rod, because I do not know what function the spring and washer has.

OK, there were different manufacturers building steering racks for Jaguar in those days and yours may be different from mine. But if you go the the online catalog of SNG Barratt you can find exploded drawings of most components.

If I were to guess based on a function analysis, I'd say the washer
and spring serve to keep the male part seated in the female part.
