One more dumb question on color
Just received my Production Record Trace from the Heritage Trust. It shows the production date of 11/10/76. However, it shows the color as Sable. In the Nigel Thorley XJ Restorer's Guide, the charts on page 122 show that Sable was available on Series l from 10/72 to 10/74. Series ll shows a Carriage Brown (dark) from 10/75 to end of Series ll production. So, my question is; are these the same colors with different names? Again, thanks in advance.

Yours does look a bit different than Sable to my eyes....but photographs (and my imagination?) sometimes deceive.
Over the years I've come across some discrepancies in colors offered and their names....and some discrepancies in Thorley's work as well
A very good friend of mine had a Series III in Brazila Brown....an oddity that few have heard of and fewer have seen. It doesn't even appear in Jaguar literature with any consistency. Everyone thought is was Sable or Grosvenor. It did have a different mix code than the the other two but it couldn't have been 1/16th shade different from Grosvenor to my eyes
Anyhow, there is some occasional weirdness on colors. Let's hear what some Ser II experts have to say !
Cheers
