I tested the wires on the back of the speedometer and it is getting power. I believe now its the instrument itself being faulty. The odometer has not worked since I got the car, and the speedometer stopped working recently. I cant seem to find the speedometer online. Its a 1982 series 3 with mph going up to 90mph. I wanted to take it apart and look at it but after unscrewing the 3 screw in the back I cant figure out how to take it apart.

I've had a couple of them apart. If you really want to go that route you must use a fine tip flat blade screw driver or similar implement to bend open the six ears on the back side of the black bezel, then the bezel comes off along with the glass, trip odometer reset button, abunch of old, dried out sealant, and voila, the speedometer is out of its case. I may have a spare hanging about if you are interested?

Oh yea that would be awesome if you have a spare one. Its the 90mph speedometer. Was stuck at 12,700; the previous owner who we knew said it should have only around 35,000.

Why would one want the blind edition?
Oh, yeah, ultimate originality!!!
I recall the digital unit on my 88 Tbird. Dumb thing topped out at 85, On occassion, I knew I was going much, much faster.
And, even worse, at night, I could dim the rest of the panel, but not that thing. Bright as bright can be. Fix: A business card fit right in and blanked it out. Noglare in my face at night.
When politicos mess in tech, the results are not likely as intended.

Would you have some photos from inside your/a speedo? I have an yellow wire that is off and I dont know where to fasten/sold it to. Then a very short red wire at the electronic bord that also is off!
I would appreciate if someone could assist with photos or wiring diagram from inside the XJ6 1983, Series 3.

Wow! Thanks so much for the awesome insight guys! It's a huge help! I guess my plan of attack here is to work on the wipers first cuz, y'know, safety and legal reasons and then I'll try and tackle the joy that is those panel bulbs. I'll be sure to update progress!
Bit of an odd question: I did check the 35A fuse and it seemed OK, though it was the original Lucas brand so I went ahead and popped a new one in anyway and cleaned the fuse contacts with some electrical contact cleaner and a q-tip. Is there any real difference between an SFE fuse and an AGW fuse?
