Default Just purchased ‘87 Vanden Plas!

Greetings from Seattle!

I just bought an ‘87 Vanden Plas and I wanted to introduce myself and say hello to the group. I’m not new to the forums as I have been active in the X308 and X150 pages for a few years. But I’m new to this page.

My name is Danny. I’ve been in love with Jaguar since my parents owned a then new ‘77 XJ12L. That was my first introduction to Jaguar and I’ve been hooked ever since. What a fabulous car that was. Since then, I’ve owned several XJS’s, a ‘95 XJ6, an ‘00 Vanden Plas, and an ‘02 XKR. I now have an ‘02 XJR and a ‘14 XKR convertible. And as of yesterday, I’m the proud papa of an ‘87 Vanden Plas! I love cars and especially Jags. I feel blessed to have a hobby I’m so passionate about.

I’ve always thought the Series III is the most beautiful sedan ever made. (Well, okay, I think X308’s are just as beautiful.) I have wanted an ‘87 Vanden Plas since my parents traded in their ‘86 for an XJ40. I was lucky to have found this car on AutoTrader. It was at a dealer in Virginia and it has only has 26,000 miles! I haven’t even seen the car but the mechanic who inspected it for me said it is immaculate. It certainly looks like it in the pictures. I’m having it delivered in a couple weeks and I can’t wait for it to arrive.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself and tell you about the car. I’m looking forward to conversing with you all. Cheers!

Thanks, Doug. I used your outstanding buyer’s guide and sent it to the mechanic who did the buyer’s inspection. They aren’t Jag specialists specifically but it turned out the mechanic’s personal car is a Series III so he knew what to look for.

First :

Welcome. We have a lot of fun here as well as help each other a lot.

Then:

What luck !!! A great car and just the right guy to inspect it. Plus Doug's written guidance.

The last and thusly most refined of the SII series. Gee....

As close to a bran, spanking new SIII as we will ever hear of...

Looks like your contributions will be in getting the car home and exploring it.

Issues, sure does not look like any to get help on fixing....

Congratulations

Carl

Thank you, Carl!

I am excited to begin being a part of this group like the other ones. It sounds like a great group of people. These forums have significantly improved the experience of owning an older Jaguar. I Would not be as into ownership without the forums. They’ve helped me countless times. I’m not much of a DIY mechanic but the forums have enabled me to do so many things I never imagined I could do. I can’t say enough good things about them and the people on them.

The air conditioning in the car doesn’t blow cold so the mechanic is looking into that. Plus, the headliner was sagging in the rear so they’re doing that as well. I knew about both issues before I made my decision. The dealer actually told me about them. One of the headlights is discolored so I’ll probably upgrade all of them to brighter ones. I already found a great post on that and what to buy. Other than that, I’m unaware of anything else it needs. The previous owner even changed the rear calipers and brakes a year and a half ago.

Enjoy your day!
