Guy who sold me engine had the leads wired as in the hand drawn diagram, the Haynes book says otherwise. Are there different leads set up to the spark plugs on different models or is it uniform and in which case does he have it wrong?
When the engine was built, the setting of the bronze driven gear for the oil pump and the distributor could have been installed anywhere in its 360deg rotational bounds.
Us in the know, place the engine in TDC comp stroke #1, and then fit the driven gear, then the oil pump adaptor, then the oil pump, then the offset for the distributor will be in the "factory" position.
Soooo, place the engine on TDC compression stroke cylinder #1, and then observe where the rotor is pointing, that is #1 spark plug wire position, the simply fit the rest in counter clockwise 5.3.6.2.4, completing the installation.
To reset that driven gear now the sump is on, is doable, but I would NOT attempt it.
The placing of the wires in cap is as I said above, and if its different to the factory, or a drawing somewhere, so be it, it is ALL related to TDC comp stroke of cyl #1.
god, that's complex but I think I follow what you mean. his wiring might be based on an exact knowledge of where the pistons were in their cycle I guess.
