Can anyone tell me how to stop this site from sending email messages to me every time I respond to a thread?

I am swamped with email as it is (and so are a lot of people) - just want to control the constant flood of emails from various sources

I like to go onto this site and glance over the various topics that are if interest to me.

If I respond to any of them I get emails about the all activity on that particular thread. I would rather choose the replies myself.

Disregard. After rummaging around in the CP I think I found the magic button that stops the constant notification feature.

In your UserCP, down the list, open Edit Options.
Down about midway is Default Subscription Mode. the default setting is daily emails.
Open the list and select the one you want.
Be sure you click Save Changes, which is Clear at the Very Bottom of the page.
