Default Michelin xwx tiny tire look…

Installed 4 Michelin xwx 215 70vr15 and they look very small. I had a pair of same size BFgoodridge and they were much larger.

so are those Michelin just one size too small ? Thinking of fitting 225 70vr15 (if that’s possible on the 6in rims) now as I don’t really like the look of these tiny bicycle tires. I know everyone swears by the ride and all but it’s disappointing to buy these and realize they are a few sizes smaller.

ill take better pictures once outside.

Your ride height looks a bit high to me. This can make a tire look smaller because so much open wheel well is exposed.

But, according to specs on Tire Rack, for what they're worth, the Michelin is indeed a bit narrower:

Michelin
8.7" section width
5.3" tread width
26.9" diameter

BFG Goodrich
8.7" section width
6.5" tread width
26.9" diameter

Cheers
DD

Height is original, This xj6 has 25k miles on it. I’ll fit those 225 on it and see how that looks. I’ll probably sell these 215 at 50% discount. Found a picture of one with the xwx tires.. the look is awful.

Jeffkrell,

I have 215-60Hx15's on mine and like the profile. Here are a couple of pictures. These tires are about 25" tall. I think Doug's onto something there, the ride height looks a little high. I'm looking at the rear wheel, plenty of reveal and lots of positive camber. That might be from just jacking the rear up and setting it down on the blocks without relieving the suspension.
Good luck,

Dave

Thanks. Your 60 have more side wall than xwx 70s! Yeah I need to take correct pictures once on pavement. I’ll fit the 225 xwx and I ll take nicer pictures then we can see the difference. I can definitely say those xwx are one size too small. I mean I have Goodyear assurance triple thread 215 70/15 on a Maserati and they are monsters. 235 wide. No way I’ll put xwx 225 70vr15 on that Maserati. It will looks even worse. Not even close to the xwx tires of the 70s/80s. I think it’s a rip off and a scam. Performance must be up to par but definitely not the dimensions.

Part of this comes from the shape of the tire. The Goodyear Tripletred has an obvious 'square shouldered' design where the XWX is a 'round shoulder' shape

Yeah. It’s mostly all optical illusion. I am going to put my 225/70vr15 on it. It’ll look good and ok on a 6in rim.
maybe one size too big but I’ll like the look. The new xwx are lighter..
BFG tire vs Michelin same size
