Default Mk 10 SU's on S1 XJ6

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know definitively if a triple SU manifold and carbs from a Mark 10 will have any issues fitting under the hood of an XJ6?

Thanks,
~Mike

Mike,

MK10 3.8ltr manifold will not match the 4.2ltr head, I THINK, but that is a tad fuzzy in the brain now.

The MK10 4.2ltr set up will fit the head, BUT, I think the rear carby is going to get fouled on the brake booster, and if it clears, JUST, the air cleaner will be fun, NOT.

Nothing is impossible, but I reckon a very tight squeeze is ahead of you.

Ummmmmm, WAKE UP Grant. This is a LHD car, sooooo the booster is on the LH side, right?????.

So it should all clear, just the mating of the manifold to the head ports, as I said, and throttle linkage messing.

My apologies for mucking that one up.

No worry's Grant - Actually I have a black Victoria number plate on the front of my car so if you saw it you would think it was a RHD from Oz. Lived there for quite a while - magnificent country. I think there's a pic of my LHD Australianified XJ6 in my pics section.

I have both a 3.8 and 4.2 Mark 10 3 SU setup - just got the 4.2 and I found some cash so I'm gonna have it professionally rebuilt for the XJ6. I've heard alot of things about the conversion and sometimes I've heard that the front carb may interfere with the bonnet (nothing definitive though). I know that if you try to use the original XJ6 header tank the filler neck will interfere so some modification is necessary. Not worried about that though as long as the carbs themselves will fit. Linkage is gonna be a bit of an adventure because I have to maintain the downshift solenoid switch for the BW model 12 - I'll make it happen though.

Mike,

I just had the usual brain fade and did not look at your location, coz I am so used to NO location, or some abbreviation that means nothing to anyone outside the States???.

Fun will be had, but not as much as putting a V12 in a MK2 some years ago, now that was a squeeze and a half.
