Default more fun for me!

Last week I dragged a 1973 XJ6 home; a rescue from Mr. Boger's parts yard. She's tatty but basically all there and cylinders 4 and 5 are full of water since someone left the spark plugs out. I do have a spare engine so I'm not worried about the original being locked up. I am missing a LH bonnet hinge assembly; does anyone out there have one? If not, I can probably fabricate one.

at David's

at Home

I have a need for it now!

interior - I do have the dash pad
Never had a Series I before. I like the old style dash layout. The floors and sills are solid; the rear LH inner mudguard and the under panel between the exhaust exits will need repair but the rust has already cut out - I'll need just weld in new pieces.

You will be busy.

Solid looking beast for its age and obvious lack of care of recent times.

Good luck.

Good on you for saving her!! I'm working on a rolling restoration myself on a 72 Series 1, currently white as well, that I purchased a few month back.

Enjoy the journey!

Contact Robert Laughton. He will have lots of those hinges. He posts on this Forum.

Your SI looks like a solid beast, Jeff. I would have a hard time not trying to save the black one as well. I told David I could have mine running by Thanksgiving but I'm forcing myself not to tear into it until I get a couple of other projects out of the way. Blue Six's A/C has another leak which I cannot find; gonna have to run some dye through it. I'm also helping my Brother-in-law rebuild his 1800 MGB engine. I need to finish putting the chrome back on the Zephyr as well - back to work...

I'm thinking about painting this one Claret; I always liked the red cars.

Thanks Ian,

I do have several S1's here, but the '73 hinges are unique to '73 I think.

That's the only S1 with those ring bumperettes.

I once tried to put an earlier S1 bumper on a '73 because I preferred the look, but found it could not be done with those hinges.

Bob W will know.

I wouldn't want to butt in on Dave's superb service anyway, unless he doesn't have one, or the customer is in Canada.

Good luck, I've been driving S1's for 42 years.

Rob

Holy cow, Robert! You have a yard full of projects there... It seems to me I had heard there was something odd about the '73 hinges.

I'm not in Canada but I am about two hours away from David. Right now he does not have one.
