@ JagCad: The spacers are not recessed. It is the lower control arm that has a small shoulder where the spring pan bolts go. See picture in Post #45.

good steel bolts can be made very hard on surface and as much as 25% deep, where the center of the bolt is softer and flexible!

aircraft fastener hardware, quite often 12 point with a built on thrust washer, actually a lot of design engineering!
