Default O2 sensor replacement question

i have a stubborn o2 sensor. i've got the ratchet set for counter clockwise. just verifing this is the correct position to loosen. i've been rust busting it but i guess i'll have to add heat to the process.

A 7/8" or 22mm socket or wrench is the size required,

LEFTY LOOSEY will get it off if the threads are not galled/damaged.

go to any auto parts store and rent the O2 sensor removal tool.

otherwise you need a long socket with a heavy ratchet. Smack the ratchet hard with a hammer after warming up the engine good but don't touch the sensor. it gets super hot.

yes, to the left, counter-clockwise to loosen. clockwise to tighten. You will need to get the right position of the tool to get the leverage needed for a positive smack with a large hammer. Just make sure the socket is well seated over the sensor hex.
Those sensors tend to "weld" themselves onto the manifold iron. Fortunately the only part in the way is the crush-washer between the sensor and the maniforld, A good smack will loosen it.

I am trying to remember if there are any parts with opposite threads but I can't remember any in the XJ-6, they all loosen and tighten the same way. If someone knows then let me know.

1/ I defeated a pair in the extra parts that came in the engine package for my lump project. I was going to use them, but thought better and got new ones I forgot how I got a conventional socket on them. Tall black ones for my impact gun? No rachet. hard on them. My biggest break over bar. I probably added a "cheater". a mighty heave and voila!!!!

I drilled my new down pipes and welded on bungs. Antiseize for sure.

Were I not plan the reuse, I would have whacked off the top with a grinder and used a normal socket in that manner

The special socket has a notch and thusly lacks the purchase of the complete normal socket. But, they seem to work ?? t
