Oil Opinions
Hey guys! I was wondering what motor oils you use, and what your reasoning is. I need to do my first oil change on my 87 XJ6. In all my other cars I run Castrol 20w-50, as I'm in Austin, TX and it seems to work well fir the Triumphs and MGB. The basic facts: it's hot here in Austin most of the year. I'll be using this car as my daily driver more now, and usually drive about 45 miles a day overall. The car is less than 100k miles on it, has good oil pressure and runs cool. Curious to see what you have to say.
We get 50C+ summers here, and my list is:
X300, D driver, 10W/30, all year round. 207k kms
S Type 3l V6, 10W/30 all year round. 126k kms
MK10 3.8L. 15W/40 all year round. NO idea, about 400k miles.
XJ12 S2 PreHE, Fuel Infected. 15W/40 all year round. 550k kms.
XJ-S HE V12. 10W/30 all year round. 260k kms.
XJ6 S2 4.2. 15W/40 all year round. 320k kms.

I and my critters have lived mostly in temperate climes. Most including my Jaguar lump and my experienced Jeep do just fine on CARQUEST 20-50 also known as Valvoline!!
Thin oil are an anathema to me because f a poor experience way back when. But, in very cold, yeah, that is what is needed.
Castrol has a great rep!!

Well I'm going to go with Castrol 20W-50 for starters and see how things go. I'm also looking at replacing the fan with a thermostatically controlled electric one. Small improvements shall be the order of the day.
