Default Original owner 75 xj6c, what shocks to get?

I have an original owner 36,000 mile Jaguar xj6c.
The shocks are original and need to be changed. Too many offerings.
Which shocks do you believe would be most as original?

in my opinion, the most as the original Girling shocks will be Monroe shocks.

other brands are too harsh. unless you are racing the car.

Do you think I should change the springs too?
All is original.

IMO....

Unless the springs are broken, horribly rusty, or sagging leave them alone. The archives here and elsewhere are chock full of stories of incorrect ride height after new springs were installed.

I'll second what Doug said.

I bought a totally restored XJ12, but it rode like a rock in the back.

I removed the new aftermarket springs, installed originals, and the wonderful ride was restored.

Many many years ago, while doing shocks on a S1 XJ, I took the rear springs to a race shop and measured their rating in pounds. I've long forgotten what the rating was (200 pounds?), but it was the same as original spec; this on a 50 year old car.

I am of the opinion the the rear springs don't seem to sag out, but the fronts can sag (most often on a V12), or break off a coil.

Good luck,

Rob

Thank you for the information. Makes sense.
Would you have a sense as to what this car might be worth? I don't think they are very desirable.
My father bought this car new in 1975. All original, even the paint and vinyl top. I told him to buy the manual e-type with the 12 cyl. but he would not
listen. Something about having to carry passengers. :-)

the springs will be fine, the weight is at the front, the rear suspension is usually unaffected.

Worth ? Coupés are worth a lot more than Saloons, especially if they are in great condition, unrusted.

No rust at all.
Always garaged.

I saw an ad for a Coupé in Portugal selling for $18 thousand US dollars in perfect condition.
Must have sold because the ad dissapeared.
What it sold for, nobody knows.

Again, Coupés are very desirable if in great condition and no issues.

Man that car is probably a time capsule and very desirable/collectable. It's even more rare that it's still in the hands of the original owner. I would suggest take very good care of it and don't change too much. Keep any parts taken off it. Would very much like to see pics please

We've kept it up through the years, but it's been dormant for 3 years now and I've got to start working on it. My main goal is to change the shocks and get it started again.
I will post pictures after I get it out of it's hole in the garage.
Maybe this forum will get me motivated.
Thanks!

Here's some motivation. One of the most elegant and classic jaguars ever made ...imho. Record price for a restomod was $150k! But he probably had $80 in it, helluva gamble.
