Default Price for a 1983 XJ6

I found an 83 xj6 for sale for 995.00. Im going to go and take a look at it this week. Has had a new interior put in it and a current engine rebuild. I was thinking of getting the car and either restoring it or parting it out. Anyone have any ideas on what it would be worth either way??? The car seams to be in decent shape. Any where I should look for rust? Under the floor panels up front, I think I remember that place. Any help with this would be great. Thanks

Does it run? If so, $995.00 is about as low as it gets for *any* running used cars these days.

Rust: usual lower body areas as with most any car, lower corners of front and rear windscreens, underbody attachment points for the rear suspension radius arms.

Cheers

if you're going to part it, why are you worrying about rust?

Don't know. Might want to keep it. I'm really undecided. Is it worth parting out? Or am i wasting my money? Is there a call for parts???

I can't comment on the $995 cost because I'm in a different part of the World.

However, I can say:

1. there are few 1983 models left compared with the original production number and demand for parts is going to be limited
2. good interiors are always sought after by restorers
3. good bolt-on panels (wings, doors etc) fetch money from restorers

Restoration costs will always vastly exceed the final value of the vehicle unless it is very rare or special. Probably the only Jaguar you would make money restoring is an XKSS.

If you love Jaguars and you want to own and run this XJ6 then go ahead. If not, walk away.

there are many dedicated people parting out these cars all over the US so you have lots of competition, you might find out it wasn't worth all the trouble. New parts are inexpensive, used parts are cheaper, so in my opinion, there is no profit to be made. You might sell a few parts and then end up with a disabled car that is neither here or there.
