Default Proper Send Units for the XJ6 Series 1

I bought some new fuel send units Ref: C27738/ C27739 (advertised everywhere as being the proper units for the Series 1 XJ6), that look nothing like the old ones. After fitting them... nothing. Not working at all.

old ones look like this:

new ones look like this:

has anyone had a similar experience?

car model: XJ6 Series 1 2.8L (1969)

Only sorta! Different critters.

Study the mounting methods. The new on be seems to be for a top set, while your old ones are side set. The new ones are plastic and your old ones are metal. I suspect these are for a much later car.

The devices are basic electro-mechnical in design. Quite clever, but simple. Two points of likely failure. One, the float. Yours seems pristine.
Rest? Does it rattle with liquid inside? and does it float?

The other is the rheostat inside the can. corrosion ca be cleaned.
Worth away windings or sweep, not so much.

I'd say, wrong part. check with the vendor. Search for part numbers.
Ugh, one of the travails of an old car.

My son replaced the one in my Jeep. All or mostly plastic. It's rheostat just plumb wore out.
