Default Propshaft - whats this part for?

Hi
XJ12 coupe, 1976
This litle clamp part (marked with red arrow) was mounted on the prop shaft plate when I took things apart. I cannot figure out what it is for. Is it supposed to be there at all?
Thanks
/Marcus

I've been elbow deep in quite a few of these cars and never seen such a widget before, FWIW

Cheers

I've not seen that before either. As far as I know, it's not a factory part.

to me, in the second picture it looks like a miniature Stealth bomber. Could it be part of a tracking device?
