Hi, My name is Clarke. Brisbane ,Australia.
I'm a first time Jag owner, had other classic cars before and plenty of motorcycles.
I do all my own mechanical work, unless I get in too deep and have to have said vehicle towed to garage. I usually just nut it out with my retired mechanic friend.
Had the Jag a week, replaced battery, starter motor, vacuum modulator on transmission, fitted twin electric thermo fans,
accessory socket ,,played with dash to get gauges-lights working.
Other than that it's all pretty good I think.
Taking it on family road trip this week for a few days driving in the hills.
regards, Clarke

Paint job looks good! Sorry Darren, but 11 months ago when I bought this XJ6, the first thing I said was "the silver has to go" and believe it or not her indoors agreed! We were going to go BRG.
11 months down the track the only colour is silver in both our opinions.(first time in 20+ years we have both agreed on the same thing twice in one calendar year)lol.
After seeing your pics(nice colour, I would have it on most cars.) We can both see the XJ6 going silver again when it is painted. Even one of the bikes has brg and I love it.
I thought I mentioned in my first post on the forums about the colour, but obviously I just thought it out loud(to her indoors).
You can see (o1xjr) in yellow and black and (o1Bonnie) in BRG and Silver. I love BRG,but this shot in silver seals the deal.

My Jeep is a Pewter color. I've never researched what it is named??? Quite practical. Looks good when washed, but not outstanding. Even if a bit dirty, it doesn't look all that bad. Light colors have that characteristic. However, colors like this seem to blend and not be as visible. especialy on cloudy or darker days. Not good.
But, the silvers with high metallic content can be striking Like the one here!!! Real nice.
Way back when, my son bought a quite nice 53 Ford 12 ton pickup. Not quite as desirable as the later 56, but close. As I had a lot of experience with flat head fords, I test drove it. All right, an unusual amount of grunt??? A subject for another tale another day.
Well, it's blue color was a repaint, and not a very good one. Son wanted it "Corvette
Silver'", popular at the time. Well, a pal of mine had some connections, so I got a gallon of supposed "Corvette Silver". Even in 74, it was a deal for a gallon for 50 bucks!! .
So, he and pals sanded, prepped and masked it and found a painter to shoot it for a reasonable price. Ugh, nice job, looked decent, but not silver, merely a light grey!!!!
Boring, even to me. H... the cheap blue looked more exciting. Another pal got in on the act. Wow, why didn't you talk to me? So, his proposal was to paint the hood and cab top in a dark charcoal metallic as a contrast. Great idea and it looked oh aso much better.
First pal, "I dunno!!!"

Been reading about the solid vs metallic paint. My XJ6 is Sage Green Metallic. I call it "money green" ...for a number of reasons... As for metallic paint.. the main problem ( if you have the bad luck to need a panel / door etc repainted). Shooting the metallic and have it "laydown" in a manner so that it blends with nearby panels - is next to impossible. Usually metallics will show after a repair..as a result of the flakes coming to rest at a different angle from the original paint and then, reflect light differently especially when sitting outside in the sun. Worst color seems to be silver with a large flake. Mercedes silver colored cars come to mind. Mercedes seem to be the toughest silver to match but that is maybe just me and how I see the color in the sunlight. Repairs can be very noticeable - touch ups are tough to seamlessly blend. But I do like the metallics on an XJ6 - brings out its lines/styling.
I have a few spots on my car that I am not too happy with, but they are like a mark on the living room wall - just leave as is and live with it, or risk making it more visible by trying to "repair it". I tell myself it shows "character"
