It looks like the S1 didn't have the link, not shown in the parts book either.

Got the radiator back today (her indoors was kind enough to pick it up for me), and the nice guys at the radiator shop didn't even offer to put it in the car for her.
No re core needed, just some small repairs. Back in the car, assemble the rest tomorrow while the windows are being tinted.

All good, back in and running.
I found this small brass tap at the markets a few weeks ago and thought it might be good for draining the block where a tap used to be. Not sure what the original looks like but it fits perfect and seems to work with no leaks.
