Default radio code entry secret?

A friend has a 1987 low mile (40K) XJ6 VDP with all the original paperwork including the radio code card, but after replacing the battery he can not get the radio to work again. Is there any special trick to entering the code? He says he has tried entering the code from the card several times, but the radio still won’t come on and the Jaguar dealers he’s asked have no interest in one “that old”.

I read of a place in UK that can fix the issue with the radio code. Can't find it now.

Don't enter the code quickly, It seems like they need the digits entered with about a second pause between each one.

And the first entry attempt will be interrupted by a beep, at which time you enter the digits all over again.
