radio memory
#3
ok...try to envision this
i have a satellite radio (xm onyx) and i purchased a power cord to hard wire the xm.
from the back of the radio (pioneer 6300) there is a yellow and red wire. when they are connected together i get power. i wired the xm to these and everything is fine except the radio does not retain memory when i power the car off.
before i hardwired the cord to the red and yellow wires it was receiving constant power which i obviously dont want. i want the xm power to shut down when the car does.
am i screwing up the memory b/c i wired the xm before it reached the harness connection?

I have the factory radio wiring and installation instructions that came with my 1984 XJ-6. They are dated 1983 but Jaguars were built one year ahead of their Model Year. My car was built Sept. 1983 and was sold in Sept. 1984, so it took about a year for it to get to the dealership and be sold. The wiring is the same from 1980 all the way to 1987 USA XJ Series 3 cars.

red is ignition + power, yellow is constant + power for memory presets. White is antenna +. Blue is dimmer +-.

An/or I do not rmember how to set the stations? I may have lost the presets sometime ago wen i changed batteries! Don't recall how to set.
I do have a vague recollection, that when i dod recall the reset, it did not work.
It did at one time.

Thanks. I made notes of the wire colors. The memory in my 83 is not in service? Is there a fuse for the yellow constant 12v in the console or elsewhere that may be blown?

yes, the yellow wire has a fuse, look for it behind the driver's side "right knee" floor vent panel,
Memory depends on the type of radio you have; Any picture? from 1980 to 1984, you dial manually to the station you want to preset with the right knob, then press the MEMORY button and while holding it, press the PRESET NUMBER where you want the station.
In 1985 a new DIN radio was installed, all you do is dial the station you want to preset, and press the PRESET NUMBER for 2 or 3 seconds.

Got it. My car is an 83 Xj6, un VDP!! The radio depicted on the right is like mine. I have the one in the car and two spares!!
I just finished my gage session. I have ntes and tomorrow or the next day, I'll have at it.
I hope I don't have to remove the cheek panel. those little pozi screws and my antique bones don't get along that well. But, it isn't strange clountry, I've been in there more than once.
Thanks
Carl

Carl,
the one on the right is the 1985 to 1987 radio, (US cars). the wiring is the same as the 1983/1984.
Page 4 of the 1983 Installation/Wiring instructions shows the Yellow wire spliced to the ignition wire harness with a 5-amp fuse.
but you need to check the RED wire fuse, 1-amp.
sorry for the croosed wires!

Jose:
Well, now I see the bareley visible letter and tab for "memory". I got it to set one station only. But, that went away when I shut the ignition switch off,
So, My radio's memory set is bonkers and the red wire is not hot I think,
So, I'll check it out in the cheek panel side. If not a blown fuse or bad holder, I'll steal constant power for it and fuse it.
If that works, Ill be amazed. If not, I'll consider continuing to manual tune or change to one of my spare radios. I'll bench test them first.
Thanks.
