A very typical colour from the 70s !
This was the era that put bright orange seat covers in British Rail new rolling stock. Jaguar even sold a pinl colour but it was called "Heather". I have to say I do get fed up with seeing black after black after black cars. Why do people want to step into black cars before their time ?
because of the horrible color, they probably keep it hidden and it escaped from its prison.
I'll always have a fond spot for that colour because as I kid I lived in a small town that had one Jag, just like the one Doug spotted, and it was driven by a mysterious beautiful woman, probably a spy (what did I know being a kid). She and that Series I made quite an impression.

the first XJ-6 I ever saw was in 1971, a Series 1, it was all black including interior. A beautiful car, the father of my beautiful girlfriend brought it home one day while I was teaching his daughter to drive with the manual transmission of my MG-B. I thought the Jaguar looked like a Bentley.
It had many electrical problems, he tried to return it but the selling dealer would not take it back, the foldable center panel with all the switches had caught fire. So he crashed it destroying it, the car landed in a watery ditch, sinking half of the car. The insurance paid the total loss.
I like that color. As a matter of fact my '73 project would look good in that color. It definitely won't be white (yawn) when I'm through with it. Definitely won't be black...
As much as I like BLACK Jaguars (or any car in BLACK for that matter), I would Not like all cars to be BLACK.
Then they would be a Common as (yawn) white, gray or silver cars; Road colors, with absolutely no soul, and completely unremarkable. One must to memorize the plate number to know which is yours in a busy market parking lot.
I have only had that problem once in my life, when I drove a (yawn) gray/silver Ford Windstar van for a while. One day I came out of COSTCO to find no fewer than FIVE gray vans of various makes, models and years, all lined up with Wart in the middle somewhere. At a quick glance, THEY WERE IDENTICAL!
I grew up with a black '65 Pontiac Catalina station wagon, in the South, with no air conditioning, and vinyl seats. We lived on a dirt road. One of my chores was to wash the cars... I loved that car despite the color.
To each their own but no black for me.
Lnr, if you drive an old Jag there never seems to be a problem finding your car in the parking lot - regardless of the color.
