Default Rear alignment questions / JD 25 tool attachment

Hi all,
I'm currently restoring my 1985 XJ6 IRS after dropping it to only rebuild the brake calipers, project creep strikes again !
Mainly because the oven cleaner I used ( without testing first - duh ! ) stripped the paint along with the grease.

Does anyone have a picture of the Jaguar JD.25 rear ride height tool in use or just the tool itself ? I'm trying to figure out exactly where on the rear fulcrum shaft nut it attaches ( upper end hooks in the rear IRS mount, no problem there ). Per the diagram in Kirby Palm's XJS book the loop is 1" diameter but the nut has a round shoulder that is 15/16" and the flats are 1 1/16" ? So does it go over just the shoulder or is it supposed to be bigger and go over the flats too ? Pictures of the shaft nut and tool diagram from Kirby's book below.

I've read that most people have never used one, but I'm replacing the rotors and want to check the rear camber ( with the IRS off the car ) before putting everything together just to have to take it back apart if it's not right. I'm making my own tools which should hold the hubs at correct ride height before mounting the shocks / springs. I just need to know where it attaches at the bottom.

Final question is about the shims between the lower inner wishbone attachment bracket and the differential housing. What are they really for ? Aligning the shafts with the holes in the cage, with each other, rear toe correction, or is their purpose lost in time and just yet another "interesting design feature" ?

Cheers !
Brian

Hi Brian, here's a pic of the ones I made. The important dimension is the "inside to inside" distance as shown in the diagram. The 1" diameter will need to be very slightly bigger in my experience, a nice non-sloppy fit is what I went for. I also made the ride height blocks for front suspension, I can send a picture if you like, I'll have to go out to the garage and take one.

Thanks for the pictures Dave, just what I was hoping to see. Your tool confirms what I noticed when eyeballing one of my "parts yard" extra IRS's --- the hook end would needs a slight twist to attach correctly.

Thanks Doug, all the info I could find about the shims just said to put them back where they came from but nothing about adjustment, purpose, etc. Mine has one .007 in three spots and two .007s on the last, interesting ?

I'm probably overthinking everything, but I like to fix things correctly the first time ! Also why I like working on the Jag, they usually put a lot of thought into the design instead of "what's the cheapest & quickest way" like other makers.

Cheers,
Brian

I'll try to finally post some pics later this week, more parts to clean first !
