How do you remove the ashtray on the rear door? I've been trying to figure out a way to remove it so that I can take off the door panel in order to fix the window motor.
(Sorry about the emoticon)

UPATE TO POST:
How would one replace the window motor for the rear door?
HOW I GOT THE ASHTRAY OUT:
1.Open the ashtray
2.Push down on the ashtray with a little force (there is a spring holding the ashtray in)
3.Pull out the ashtray (shouldn't take much force at all)

Hmm. As I remember it, my '80 XJ ashtray removal needed first removal of the tray innards, which revealed a single screw, which when removed, allowed the outer part of the ashtray to be removed. My memory may have faded however !!

Sorry, forgot you request in red ink.
OK, obviously you have to take off the door panel, but first make sure the window is up, and then tape it up so it can't drop down. Then, when you unbolt the lift motor, you can slide the motor arm off the door glass easily, and not get annoyed with the window trying to drop on your fingers. Rear window lift is just one arm onto a channel on the glass; fronts have two arms as glass is much wider.
These door lifter motors are hefty beasts, far heavier than modern stuff.
