Default Rear window defroster inoperative

1982 series 3
Can someone give me a sort of checklist to check the rear defroster?
When I hit the switch the light on the dash comes on but there is nothing going on in the back and no heat

If you have a test light or meter you can check for voltage at the plug to the defroster grid. There are actually two plugs, left and right. One gets 12 volts, the other goes to ground. I can't remember which is which. But, if neither gets 12volts with the switch on, post back.

If you DO get 12 volts at the grid plug then you've probably lost the ground. Might be as simple as the wire being disconnected.
