Default refused to show my engine!!

So.... i was buying gas on saturday, young kid casually strolled over from his Honda, kia, hyundai, (or whatever it was as they all look the same anymore) and straight up accused me of having a lump, apparently had been trying to catch up to me for a while to look at car. Said there was no way that that 30 year old jag motor was pulling away and moving as quickly as it was! I politely corrected the young man telling him that it was in fact the original motor and he was mistaken, upon that he decided he needed proof and demanded i pop my hood! I, being the lovely person i am straight up refused!!! Finished filling my tanks, hopped in car and left, of course giving it all she had, roads were a little damp so just to rub in i made sure she broke loose! Was that wrong??? Nah dont answer that, i dont care! Lol. 10 years later and i still love driving the jag like go cart!

Shesh! It's a 4000 lb salon that does 0 to 60 in 12 seconds when new. Certainly not go cart like. Even a 2010 4 cylinder Hyundai Sonata can manage 0 to 60 in 10 seconds. I'm no fan of the Sonata or other similar transportation appliances but the story and unwillingness to open a hood seems a bit odd. Having a lump is nothing to be ashamed of, in fact, some people are thrilled to have one.

Funny, I'm always keen to satisfy willing admirers of fine engineering!

Darren, had you shown him your engine it would have satisfyingly rubbed salt into his skeptical wound! Now of course he's just convinced you're lumped. Who cares what he thinks anyway.

I always say these cars handle corners like a go cart (i.e. low centre of gravity, virtually no roll), but that's about the only comparison.

Caveat: I have nothing against lumping...

Under those insinuations, I would have asked him for $50, and if the opening proved to be a Jag engine, you kept the $50, and if a lump appeared gave him his money back.

I got that heaps with the V12's, even when they had a V12 badge on the guard, each side.

I made a few bucks over the years.

I don't usually have a problem showing the engine in my cars but it all depends on the attitude of the person asking. Incredulous is one thing; rude is another.

I never open the hood. Its a train wreck under there! Car itself is gorgeous, engine bay lets entire car down! So it stays shut! Engine may be original, but stock.it is not. Its no race car by a long shot, but she can hold her own in the stoplight wars!!
My daily driver is an E250 work van loaded.down with tools, so in comparison the jag drives.like a.go cart!

Yeah, I agree. It is the attitude thing.

Darren: Were it not for the attitude thing, I'da popped the hood. "Son,
this is what beats your beetle"!!! The ultimate "put down". !!!!

Grant: I like the "'put your money where your mouth is". response.

To the kid that challenged Darren: When you can match his talents, you can talk, til then, shut up"! "And, there are some 30 and 40 year old cars that can bust your chops".

I am proud of my lump. I had a hell of a time getting it right. The GM LT1 looks right in the bay. Reasonably clean. Efans and electric water pump function and look good. Wiring almost but not quite elegant. It does do what it is supposed to, though.

I am far from an electric guru, but, I made t work and am especialy proud of my ground bus for various relays.

A couple of years ago, it was idling in the drive as I prepared to go on errands. The
UPs driver had a package for me. He recognized the exhaust note ! V8, not 6!!!
Good ears, huh???
He was very complimentary.... "Nice work". I Felt really good.

PS, He is an Aussie !!!!

Anecdote: My regular USPs guy is timely and friendly. During my recent starter travails, he commented on Jaguar issues. We chatted briefly. He said, he is a Cadillac guy!!! I said, it is the Cadillac part in my car that is putting up the fuss.
"Your Jaguar has a Cadillac engine???" Yup, it sure does!!!

We had a good laugh!!!!

Carl

Great story. Still want a 12. I have a series 3 XJ12 with dead transmission and headgasket leaking so I have to rebuild the engine first. Then I want to get a good solid series 1 and put it in there. Hope it will work out some day.

I've had people ask if my engine is stock, and I always say, "Yes, stock Chevy 350, for which I can take neither credit nor blame. The car came to me this way and I Rather Like It!"

If they're still curious, then I show them, because even though I had nothing to do with it all, I'm as proud of the engine as I am of the rest of the car.

Taken about 10 minutes ago.
