Default Removing the Side Mirrors - 1987 XJ6 VDP

Hello, please how do I remove the side mirrors of 1987 XJ6 VDP?

I tried but seem like I have to remove the door cards and have no clue of removing the door cards.
If there is any other easy way to get the mirrors out.

Thanks

The wiring for the mirror has a 4-pin connector plug inside the door. You should be able to wriggle it up through the hole so you can disconnect it to remove the mirror. The rubber grommet might need to be pulled out to allow it to fit.

Removing the door card is not too difficult. There is a screw under the armrest - remove that then the top of the armrest will slide and lift off revealing two or three screws holding it to the door. Remove these and disconnect the puddle lamp if fitted. Then, starting from the base of the doorcard, pull outwards to release the trim clips from the door using a plastic trim removing tool or lever. Once all are released the card will lift up off the retaining hooks. You will need to disconnect the speaker cable and mirror control cables from the door pocket.

thanks Andy, one of my heroes here.
Do you mean I can disconnect/remove the mirror without removing the door card?

Removing the door card: this is a VDP, so don’t forget the screw at the bottom of the map pocket.

more: the mirror and mirror controls actually have two sets of connectors, the first set is about 6 inches from the twin stalk control and second set is about 6 inches down from the mirror unit itself. The mirror unit screws fit into crush nuts to secure the mirror to the door.

Problems with the mirrors are generally not related to the twin stalk controller itself, although replacing that unit often fixes the problem. In reality what fixes the problem is unplugging and reconnecting the wires. This process cleans the oxidation film that is actually the problem!

Yes the mirrors can be removed without taking off the door card.

The little 4-pin connectors are not a great design and can work loose, so I always use a tie-wrap around the two halves when re-connecting to keep them from falling open.

yes and when you get the connector out wrap a bundle of masking tape around the hole so you don't loose the connector, otherwise you will have to remove the door card.

I have managed to get one mirror removed but in the process the rubber sank in and I used a a kind of copper wire to secured the wiring from sinking in. But one of the passenger side mirror screw is too stick that I could not unscrewed it so that is left for another day trial.
