Default Replacment Gauges - 1986 XJ6

For the longest time i've been curious about Replacing the old gauges (volt, coolant temp, oil level, etc) so I've decided that I will with one of my up coming paychecks.

Here are the ones I'm looking to replace the old stock ones with.

http://www.stewartwarner.com/Products/prod1.html

Either one of the Deluxe bundles or the "Wings". I heavily prefer the Wings series in aesthetics. So here is my question;

Would these gauges be comparable with the 86-XJ6? How does the current lighting(which is what i have issue with) work. If any one knows, what are the dimensions of the stock gauges?

I give you my thanks,
Robert

I have always found success in talking with the supplier. Maybe you can call their tech support and describe what you plan to do. They may be able to walk you through the pros and cons of how their gauges fit a Jag.

Try Speedhut gauges.

I recently replaced the Smith's fuel, temp, pressure and voltage gauges on my LT1 powered 87 XJ6. They old Smith's worked intermittently.
Fuel: For the fuel gauge I found a set that has the same ohm span as the original [22-250].
Temp: I have yet to change the temp sender for the new gauge to one compatible with LT1 so I didn't expect a correct reading from this gauge yet.
Pressure: Same as Temp
Volts: This should require no modification.
Tach: I learned that to adapt the Smith's tach to the LT1, a resistor needed to be soldered into the circuit. This was done.
After replacing the gauges, nothing works but the speedometer, which does only because it is mechanical. None of the other gauges work at all and neither does the lighting. I checked the fuse panel under the dash and the glass bullet fuse that is listed for the gauges appears fine. [I'm considering replacing that fuse block with a modern spade fuse distribution center]. My question is whether there is another fuse or relay that controls power to the gauges.

12 volt "+" for the gauges comes from fuse #4/Solid green wires at the gauges.

I wonder if you lost your dashboard ground? Check for black wires on the two ground tabs below the speedo and tach,

Cheers

Did you replace the original Smiths gauges with another set of Smith's gauges, or something else?
