Default Reverse Lights inop

1990 XJS V-12. I'm lost. Reverse lights stopped working. Started at the fuse, is ok. Bulbs are ok. No power going to the lights. Disassembled the console. Have two roller switches at the front of shifter mech. Does anyone know which is the reverse switch? No warning lights ever came on. Does anyone have anything to suggest?

If you have the console off, put the car in reverse and see which switch is activated and then test it.

Shouldn't be too difficult as you have already done the hard bit.

Should also have posted in the XJS section, hopefully one of the mods will be along to move it for you.

There is a detent ball type switch near the bottom of the gear selector.

See item 24 of the attached:

Selector Gate and Lever-5.3 Litre-Automatic - Parts For XJS from (V)139052 to (V)179736 | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Chances are the detent ball is gummed up or the switch is bad.

Good luck!

Thanks, cleaned the detent ball switch, they work. I still don't know what the two roller switches are at the front of the shift mech. I will have to look it up. Thanks for your help.

One is gonna be related to cruise control. The other perhaps related to the automatic seatbelts, or perhaps the neutral switch?

What are the wire colors?

Cheers

I think the micro switches are for the cruise control and kickdown.

My vote for the micro switches is one for cruise lock out and the other for neutral start.

My car is an XJ6, r was. I nstalled the XJS column to get the pattern as well as the on tower microswitches and reverse lamp. The reverse lamp switch on the BW's s on the transmission???
