Default Sagging spring issue

I wanted to pass along an idea I discovered. My 79 has old tired rear springs (just like me). The rear of the car was lower than the front, much like when an old car has a heavy load in the trunk. I was working on my 87 in the rear wheelwell area when I noticed it had old fashion twist in spring spacers. We used these back in the 60s on cars that were to tow a trailer and had coil springs in the rear. They stiffen the coil springs and raise the tail up a bit. Some people would use them on the front springs as well.

It turns out the are still available and inexpensive. They install easily; just remove the back wheel. Insert the in the spring and using a 1/2" ratchet turn them 90 degrees. You use two per spring so with our dual springs on each side you need two packages. Put them down at the bottom of the spring so they don't hit the shock absorber inside the spring. And voila, sagging springs fixed. The back is now about an inch higher.

I know that replacing the springs is the recommend way to go but I understand it is hard to find replacement springs with the factory specs. Not to mention a big job to install. So if your rear is sagging, you might want to try this quick fix. Here is a Link to the ones I used.

Good info; thanks. There has been something bugging me about my ride height and the other day I measured: gap from top of hubcap to wheel arch/fender is 1/2" smaller on the left side. Just enough to make the car look like there's a heavy guy sitting in the back seat behind the driver.

Wouldn't be something I'd use....kind of a hack. Replacement spring are available and the addition of gas pressure shocks like KYB have been know to raise the car considerably.

Well, if anyone knows where I can get proper front springs for a 69-73 Series 1, I'd be grateful to know. RTC2754 is the correct spring, not RTC2751 (which is for a much heavier Series 2). I want to keep the original stance AND soft ride.
