Default Easy to reinstall..

When I had them, I just put them on as far as they would go (usually about 60%) and gave them a hit on the remaining edge.

Much easier with the XJ40 wheels, you use a Allen wrench to screw in the center caps.

Roger - thank you. I've tried that with my palm and now I think I broke my hand. haha. I bought a rubber mallet. I'm going to give that a try. I needed a new rubber mallet anyway.

Can you post a photo of your Series 1 with XJ40 wheels? I'm not sure what that means. I know a lot about older Porsche and Volvos but Jaguar specific lingo is not yet familiar to me.

Seems to work that way for me too, never had to hit them more than once.

Mine have mallet marks from a PO, it's all about technique I guess. I just do it the way I watched my Grand Dad do it.

I dimly recall hub cap days. In the late 40's, I worked at a full service gas station.
fixed flats, a lot. Cars either had hub caps or were bare...

I still have a cap from a 40 Ford. And an assortment, no sets of "beauty rings". later vintage, though.

The early tire irons had a fitting for the lug bolts on one end, and a flat on the other to pry off hub caps. As I dimly recall, a thump with a fist placed just right seated them The side opposite the thumb....

Default Series 1 with XJ40 wheels

Every time I try to load a picture of the car with the wheels, IE crashes?

Best I can do is give you a link to my OneDrive...
https://onedrive.live.com/?id=4437CF...2B033E&group=0

These wheel fit the rear fine, the front has to have wheel spacers and longer lug nuts. S1 front hubs are different from S3... spare tire has to
be stock sized or the wooden cover will not lay flat since the wheels are seven inches wide.. I am getting a Jag XJR compact spare very soon.

Default caps

On the posts for the hubcaps, you'll find slots cut around and near the top of the posts. set the cap rim on 2 of these slots so that it is raised ( do not place the cap against the wheel ). Doing this allows the cap to "stretch" over the 3rd post and will save from sore palms and dents. Hope this makes sense,
Jim

Jim, I really did try that. Maybe I'm just a big weenie but for the life of me I can't get them back on. I even put dabs of vaseline on the posts! I'll give it another whirl when the rain quits - yes it is raining here in California!
