Default Series 3 light issues

Hi all,

I'm very near to a road legal Jaguar, I just have a couple issues to deal with.

First off, when I turn the knob my high beams turn on with the main lights. I have to pull the lever and it's fine, but the next time I turn my main lights on it does it again.
Second, my right-rear-indicator is always on. It just started doing this after sitting for a bit.

I've tried rolling fuses, tried a different light switch, checked wiring, but can't really tell the problem. I hope these are common and someone can help me?

I would substitute the main Headlights Relay, the one with the red diodes in the engine compartment.
I would also substitute the Flasher Relay.

have you done any work with the Emergency Hazard Switch ?

Yes, it all works fine. Except that the right rear indicator is permanently on with the ignition.

If you turn the indicator switch to select the opposite indicator (blinker) lights, does it stop ?

Go to the light fuse panel in the left side of the engine bay. Roling the fuses is a god tool. usually works. but, if not, lift the assembly from the holder to expse the underside. With contact cleaner and a brush, scrub the contacts of all the residue.

That mnight help.

As to the indicator. study S57 Schematic. What other wire might be incontct and provice another source of volts to light the la.

Does it flash or merely glow?

hat happpes wheh yu direct volts to the indicator by use f the turn stalk

Just suggesting trains of thought to folw.

yeah Carl, I'm thinking the Turn Signals Switch too. They do go bad. They can be opened and rebuilt, I've done a few of them.

Could be something as silly as incorrectly inserting the wiring plug to the bottom of the flasher relay.

it happened to me once, now I know how easy it is to misconnect that plug. In my case, I pushed the plug onto the bottom of the flasher relay but left one of the terminals of the relay disconnected, it didn't go into the plug.
I started getting weird symptoms with the turn signals. ordered a good used flasher relay from David when mine was fine all the time.

I am also thinking about the Diode in the Left turn signal harness that connnects to the Tachometer.
There is a diode about 3" inches down the harness starting from the tachometer. Harness tape must be removed to see it. If that diode goes out, weird symptoms appear in the Left side turn signals.

who knows, it could be anything. Could even be related to the Bulb Failure modules located in the trunk / boot firewall behind the rear seat.

Some parts need to be substituted to eliminate the parts being the problem.

I think I've found the issue with the headlights (with BIG help of the S57 diagram). The headlight relay seems to be wired up wrong. 56 56a and 56b are all on the wrong pin!

Now I'll wait for the new relays to arrive. I'll clean up the contacts for the fusebox and swap the bulb failure modules L and R and see if that's the issues.

So, I found this diode and it does appear to be blown. It passes no current either way. Am I safe to bridge this or does it have to be replaced?

Status: Right rear light remains problematic. This issue remains isolated to that light alone. New flasher relay and swapped bulb failure modules left to right.

I replaced that diode my car, it made no change with the problem that I had and still have, although its a different problem than yours.

check the wires at the indicator that keeps blinking.
to access the rear indicator wires, remove the 4 tail lights lens screws, then three large screws to pull the lights assembly.

then you can see a black ground wire inserted into the side of the indicator lamp, The other wire makes contact with the bulb. The black ground wire can come off its holder.

This problem is solved! The plug for the fuel tank and lights were switched! They fit both ways...

Yep or just look at the colors. It never occured to me that these plugs could fit both ways.
