We're still talking about parking bake calipers? Just un-wind one half of the caliper away from the other. But you took the calipers apart to cleaning and lubricate them, didn't you?

Or are you talking about the main calipers? If so, it sounds like you're saying the caliper pistons can't be pushed back far enough. Try opening the bleeder, then pushing the piston back. Might help.

If the piston just flat-out won't retract far enough, no matter how hard you lever against it, then the piston or bore is probably rusty.

Cheers

Sorry Doug, yes indeed the main caliper, half a millimeter... Anyways it is all done, I just, uh, switched on the bench grinder 4 new Ferodo pads, very happy! I should add that the offending piston moves just fine, juuust doesn't quite go right back like I convinced the others to do.

But I've now got a slight drip on the LH thermostat... Plus a leak out the top of the expansion tank... From England with love.

Thanks though Doug, you're a great help!

Might be a good time to replace both thermostats on general principle...if there's any doubt at all about age or condition. If you do, make sure to get the correct V12 type. They have to be xxx-length (I forget at the moment, but Grant knows) and have a steam relief hole. Don't forget to bleed the system properly. It's crucial.

Somewhat common. New ones are available...some even in stainless steel if you have a big load of cash burning a hole in your pocket.

The two I've had to deal with were still good enough for the local radiator shop to repair for $25.00. Quick dip in the acid tank to remove the scale, solder-up a few pin holes, and some new paint. Good to go.

Cheers

Perfect! Thanks Doug, the 2 thermostats are actually pretty clean, got a look inside one when I was going for the head.

A big load of cash burning a hole is something I certainly don't have haha. But being such a small leak... I'm sure the radiator shop can sort that, and being at the top of the tank, I guess it isn't too bad for now?
