Default Series 3 stereo?

So I just installed a new stereo in my 86 xj6. Working decent for about a week. I was impressed with the sound for such old speakers, went ahead and replaced the front speakers with very high end 3 ohm pair of ds18. About a week into it I'm getting no sound at all. I'm fairly familiar with car stereos and never heard of this happening, usually stereo works or it doesn't. From my research I've heard some of these cars have amps behind the glovebox? Just curious if anyone has some information about this before I go tearing things apart, I really havent found much. trying to avoid rewiring all the speakers or taking off the dash till I want to redo it. Took off the driver's side center console kick panel and found a fuse not sure what for, nothing else seems to be down there, didn't check the other side.

None of the Series III cars have amps from the factory. It was a fairly simply setup.

Confused by your problem statement. Whats the difference between "no sound at all" and "............or not working"

Are you saying the head unit is live but there is no sound? or low volume?

Never heard of any extra amps or seen them on the S57 wiring diagrams

I'd be inclined to check continuity on what you have already done and the health of the replacement speakers

Great, thanks guys. Yes head unit operates as normal there's just 0 sound from any speaker not even static.. everything else powers on and works fine, I've installed dozens of stereos and never had this issue unless it was amp related. Just thought it was strange I can Google it and get different info from amp hehind the glove box to fuses in the center console. I'm going to remove the head unit tonight and go through the process, just trying to avoid handling to many panels as I can. Can't find nice red ones anywhere to replace them when I inevitably ruin one.

Possibly because the model name "XJ6" was used for decades on several very different cars.....causing confusion for both owners and search engines.

Cheers

sounds like an issue with the 3 ohm speakers, Car speakers are 4 ohms. The new speakers might.have blown the output fuse located on the back of the radio, so if the radio turns ON, and you can see the display, it's the output fuse.
