The manual doesn’t mention it, but I’m not sure how else to remove the rear bolt with the spacers. Heat shield as well? Seems like a pretty big oversight in the manual if so…

 

Pretty sure I had to drop or at least loosen the exhaust when I changed my fuel tanks.

it should not be welded, Jaguar never welded exhaust system parts. You should be able to spray a penetrating oil and rotate it off of the over-the-axle pipe.

 

Old fuel tank is out, new is in, and car is back on the road! I removed the resonator and heat shield to access the necessary bolts. Not a bad job once you know what to do. I did end up cutting the exhaust pipe after penetrating oil, twisting, hammering, etc. did not succeed in loosening it; a welding shop will fix it for about $40. I wanted them to check on my hangers as well (exhaust vibration seems a bit much) so two birds with one stone. Overall was pleased with how well the car came apart and went back together - elegant design!
