Default Speedo / Odo 1985 VDP

Hi Folks,

Having a bit of a speedometer issue in my '85 VDP. On the highway it tends to read about 10-15 mph low, and flutters around a bit. I've read the most common problem is the sender. But the odometer seems to work perfectly, checked multiple times with mile markers and GPS. If the sender was bad would the odometer still work, or does this mean the problem must be in the speedo head itself?

Thanks,

-mB

reading low around 3 to 4 mph when compared to GPS is usually due to different tire sizes being used, but 10-15 mph low is not normal.

By "sender" you mean the transducer at the transmission, correct? Has it been replaced?

No, it's the original transducer on the transmission. As I said the speedometer reads low but the odometer reads perfect.

I had a similar fluttering marker in mine and replacing the transducer fixed it, however I did not notice the odometer at the time, I assume it just keeps working as in your case.

That's my guess.

The odometer working correctly and accurately suggests (to me, at least!) that the signal from the transducer is OK.
