Default Speedo sensor loose

On my 87 XJ6, the speedometer transducer is loose, it seems like it may be missing a clip that slides into a groove on the shaft of the sensor to keep it tight against the plate that bolts down.

Is there supposed to be a clip there?

Don't take mine as the final word as its been a few years since I had a Ser III or scruntinized the transducer, but I think they normally are a little loose.

Others will chime in

Cheers

I asked a person (immjag) on eBay who was selling a rebuilt BW66 transmission this question, and they said there was no clip. They suggested replacing the fat o-ring on the sensor if the sensor is too loose. It sounds like the O-ring is the only thing holding the sensor tight in the hole. So for now, I am not going to worry too much about it.

My speedo sensor was loose as well, and allowed the body of it to flop around. I removed it from its mount and tested it by attaching it to a drill and spinning it. It worked fine.

Upon reinstalling it, I noticed it would feel tight even before it had reached the end of the threads. The only thing I did was exert a little more torque to get it to tighten up. NOTE: If it's at the end of the threads and it's still loose, the collar nut on it may be warped.
