Read the last post on thread below, without mentioning names(might be just bad luck)but that is two parts from that order of ours that didn't work!
I won't be giving them any more of my hard earned. Jagdaim and phantomjag have always been spot on, this mob were a bit slack with communication and as it turns out,checking if parts are ok before despatch. I don't have time or money to waste on suppliers that don't cut it.

Default f*#@, it has a hole

Check out the to pictures below taken 7 days apart. My tiny rust spot has become a problem.

Not only that but the rain and humidity has blistered my clear coat in many places. ( It was parked at work and we had 175 mm of rain in 7 hours). Still pisses me off though)
Living close to the tropics does have it's own set of problems. I have seen rust grow, but never in one week!

Guess what, my local paint and panel dude goe's way back to our high school days in NZ (back when we tried mountain oysters on camp).

Just waiting on a price from him to paint from the body crease upward and do the repair.

I start pulling the chrome off next week, booked in for the paint and panel Friday week. I do all the R&R of trims,bumpers, lights, handles and locks. Save myself $600 by doing that.
I offered to do some of the prep work myself to save more but he would rather have his own guys do it . I can understand that as prep not done properly causes big headaches latter.
Three quotes for the same work, difference was double the price at one shop. Went with the cheaper guy as we went to high school together and I know he will look after me.

Finally removed the bonnet lining today and took the leaper off. Re-drilled the holes so it should go back on straight after the paint is done. How could anybody mount a leaper this far off ......

I was going to replace it with my spare, but the original is in much better condition so it will go back on(straight) .

You can also see where the car was put back together too soon after the last touch up, the door handle displaced the paint, and this is not the first sign of this I have found.

From pictures I couldn't see why you were complaining about your off-center gun sight, Clarke, but from this picture of your bonnet/hood, I hafta ask (of the Other person), How hard is it to measure and drill 2 measly holes in a straight line, Parallel with the hood?!

That would be Just far enough off to drive me nuts, I tell ya!

When I was in the Body and Paint class in college, they Drummed it into us to BE SURE THE PAINT IS HARD BEFORE REATTACHING TRIM! I suppose in the Real World where time = money, that falls by the wayside in an effort to get the car out the door, collect the money and start the next paying job.

1. Oil pressure senders. A couple of years ago, the Jaguar sensor screwed into the LT1 stopped telling it as it is. I knew the engine had OP as if it didn't, it's hydraulic lifters would be screaming. So, I went shopping for a mechanical guage to verify it. No luck, I bought a SunPro after marked electric unit and kit. I as expected showed great OP. So, on a whim, I connected it's sensor to the Jaguar unit. Same answer!!! Well, courtesy of David Boger I got a NOS Jag sensor. It is now installed. Probably as as long as I need it. Lesson, other sensors will work!!


2. As I understand it the Leapers are a dealer install. Mine seems to be precisely drilled and installed. A key to a cleanly drilled hole in precisely the right location is the use of a sharp center punch to form a starting place. Skipping that and almost any bit will wander!!


Starter work today, mebbe. Super Bowl this afternoon!! Over in Glendale, Az. Rain predicted!!!

Clarke. Not sure if it will match with Fireball, but you are welcome to try out my larger leaper with circular fitting, from the Blue Goose (I think I am forever sold on the growler for the XJS).

At a guess i would of thought your leaper is the correct type for your model though.

Paul,I don't know for sure if the Series 1 came with a leaper but all I have seen have the same as mine.

Yeah i think the larger type may of been for the Mark 1's and 2's and further back but only at a guess

Stripped what I could today, put the minimum legal requirements back on to drive it to the panel shop tomorrow morning. I'm not paying $120 to have it towed 4 km.....don't seem to have a tow truck driver mate.

Default Home again, painted.

I got my car back today, My wife had to go and pay for it so I could collect after closing time. 99% of it looks great, but one door has a small mark where it looks like masking has come loose and touched the wet paint and there is couple of small bits on the rear I am not happy with so it will be going back Monday.

I have spent a few hours putting some chrome back on.

Overall it is not a bad job for the budget price and will keep .the car looking good for a few years until I decide it is time to restore it. Only got indoor night photos so far. I will get some good ones when I have finished re assembly.

I have most of the trim back on my coupe. I had it really stripped down, for a color change. All the glass was out of it, as well as the doors, fenders, hood and trunk lid. The most difficult reassembly job was the new front windshield. The three coupe clips across the top of the gasket really didn't want to go in. They are there to keep the front windshield from blowing out at speed, when the side glass is rolled down, apparently, that was a problem with the prototype coupe.

I have been spending a lot of time polishing chrome trim before it goes back on. I've found that 0000 steel wool and Simichrome polish does a great job of bringing the chrome back.

Default On the road again

Still waiting to get it back in the paint shop to touch up the couple of bits I'm not happy with.
Most of the trim is back on except the left rear door handle and the trims on the vertical part of the boot lid.

I have already had lots of comments on the resto job, little do they know it was a budget touch up job to get by until I can do it properly.

I will get some good shots of it when it is finished.
