Default Three of my best friends

These have proven invaluable to me lately. All found on eBay. The steam cleaner is the 2500 watt model and cost about $50. It has provided yeoman service with the only fault being the on/off switch melted but I just hardwired it on till I found a generic replacement for less than $10. I was using Simpsons pressure washer/steam cleaner solution at $20/gallon and it did a great job but have switched to Awesome cleaner at $1.25/quart at the Dollar Store for satisfactory results. I've used the heck out it and it has held up far better than it has a right to.
The tap and die set was around $60 and comes in so handy cleaning up dirty, rusted or bunged up threads. The thread finder is so useful when trying to replace a missing bolt/nut or trying to match one that is beyond service.

I was considering a steam cleaner for engines. Does yours work for that or do you use it for carpets etc.

I often ask husband, "What do people do who don't have TOOLS?? How do they FIX stuff??"
And then answering my own question, "They don't. They add broken things to the Landfill (Great Pacific Gyre) and buy new."

Some of us don’t have either the tools or the skills to use them in their intended fashion to achieve the desired results.

That doesn’t always mean we add things to the landfill just because they need fixing.

Sometimes it just means we hire people with the tools and the skills to fix it properly the first time.

Rob

I never even thought to use it on carpet. I've just been using it for grease removal on engine, suspension and any other place that has grease build up.

Good on you! I was given a tap and die set when I first got my Jaguar. And yes I run every nut and bolt through before replacing them. It makes it sooooo much easier to take apart the next couple of times I have to take it apart because I didn't do the job right the first time!
