Default Upgraded sway bar XJ6 S1

Hi,

I'm in the process of restoring my Jaguar XJ6 and just discovered it has a thicker sway bar than usual. I've ordered new bushings for it but the diameter of the bar doesnt seem to fit the bushing.

The bar had a sticker on it saying it's patented by some company whose name I've forgotten. Now I'm not sure where to order and if the bushings are still available.

Also, what effect would this have on the handling of my car?

Thanks

A larger front anti-sway bar will give a flatter cornering stance. It will also increase the tendency of the front tires to 'plow' (understeer) if driving aggressively through hard corners.

Measure the diameter of the bar. You should be able to easily find aftermarket bushings. Or, Jaguar may well have used a similar sized bar.

Cheers

Hi - Addco makes a 1" bar for XJ's (addco #588) that I have installed in my 72. It's hard to tell from your pic but it looks like a 1" bar.

Here is the link to the Addco bushings https://addcoswaybars.net/midsection...-bushings-1in/

Strangely even when you order the sway bar kit, it comes with generic 'U' brackets that are useless without modification but the original Jaguar 'U' is too small diameter to use with the Addco bushings without adding a spacer to the bolt hole area. You're U' brackets don't look modified - maybe the PO cut down the bushings to fit? Or it's a custom 'U'?

But as Doug said - you could just use a generic bushing that has the same diameter hole as your bar.

Stock bar was 3/4 for the 6 cyl, 7/8 for the V12.
Measure the bar and order the matching bushes.

The V12 bar on the 6 is an easy improvement.

Some vague memories have been tickled......

The XJS with "Sportspack" used a 1.0" front bar (CBC5579). Well, I'm 98% sure it was 1.0". I had one once, years ago.

The corresponding Jaguar CBC5580 bushings should work.....and be the correct shape to fit properly in the Jaguar U-brackets

Google the part number. I think they're still available. Be wary of vendors selling an incorrectly cataloged replacement

Cheers

I can get the XJ12 bushings for €3 here, they do have a slightly larger hole. I'll try those first and if that still doesn't fit I'll order from Addco.

Thanks!
