Default VSS pulses in a 1987 Jaguar XJ6

I am using a few of the XJ6 speedos and tachs in other cars and trucks.

As above I would like to learn the VSS paluses and the wiring hook up for a 1987 Jaguar XJ6 speedo.

Thanks.

Rich

8,000 pulses per mile is the spec. This assumes a Series 3 XJ6 ( individual speedo and tach); if it is the later car (1987 was a changeover year) where they are together in an instrument cluster I don't know the spec.

Sorry new question, my van outputs 40 pulses per drive shaft turn and uses a
modular to change that output to a lower number.

Do you know if that 8000 pulses is what is put to the speedo or a lower number.

I believe my van reduces it to 2000 beats per mile for the speedo and cruse.

Rich,

I've added the photos from your Intro and moved this thread from General Tech Help to XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum for wider viewing from members with the donor models.

On a Jaguar 8,000 pulses is what goes to both speedo and cruise. Some GM models reduced it further, so some used 2,000, others used 4,000, others used different numbers for speedo, cruise and EFI input. You'd have to look up the specs for your particular van and see what each individual component requires.

Jaguar didn't do that, they used 8,000 for everything.

Default done that

Simply use a Dakota Digital SGI-5
Universal Speedometer Signal Interface

I converted my Jag to use the VSS signal from a GM TPI ECU and the SGI box works perfectly. It's adjustable operates the Jag speedo smoothly with no needle jumping. Then when I changed my diff from 3:31 to 3:54 adjusting the speedo was a 2 minute operation.

Thanks.

And I now have all the answers to this problem...

Thanks everyone.

I have done a Mustang Cluster upgrade to install it into a 2000 Mercury Grand Marques, and converted the dummy oil pressure gauge to a real working one.

This is the finished and calibrated cluster by Accutach Home with the 8grand Tach converted to 6 grand and NEW face plates with my own custom numbers and fade in red lines done by Home

I am also adding a RGB LED lighting strip to give me red, green, blue and white lighting (and others...) and I am writing DIY articles on these conversions to post on Mustang and Ford sites.

I will share the links when I have posted them.

This conversion (Mustang cluster into a Mercury GM is cover here:

Mustang instrument cluster conversion *DUW* - Crownvic.net )

So I am NOT insane....

And here is the game plan for the Jag Gauges to mount into the van dash:

Note the fuel gauge has been rebuilt using a stock van gauge works so it will match up with the factory fuel sender.

Default More

Why I am obsessed with my dashes:

My first car was a 56 Studebaker Golden Hawk, so at 16 I had this dash:

My next major car was a 1967 Cougar XR, with Ford's Jag look gauges, which I had to work on and swapped the oil gauge for the Volt gauge:

I never took any photos of my next major dash conversion, but if you can picture the Cougar's speedo and Tach remounted into a 1974 CHEVY VAN...

then you can picture what I did. I drove that for about 10 years.

It was replaced with my current 1993 Custom Chevy Van.

Which I have already reworked the interior and added extra trim to farther aid the ground effects hoping for a little more MPG on the road:

I added a oil and trans cooler and removed the oversize turn singles and used the holes for these coolers and added external turn singles.

The rubber sheets are flexible.

Note the 18 inch wheels as well, they GREATLY improve the handling and I feel safety if there is a blowout. (less tire to flop around on...had one and hardly felt it, just pulled to one side, at 70 MPH...)

This is the Van I am planing on putting the Jag gauges into.

Thanks for all your help.
