well i have a 88 xj6 and the problem im having is that when i drive the car around for a while and then shut it off to go into say...the grocery store for 10 minutes or so... i get back in the car to start it, it acts as if it is getting flooded. if i sit there for a few minutes with my foot pressing the gas pedal it will eventually start and a i get a fuel smell and a small puff of smoke. other than that it runs fine. the car has low miles and i recently replaced the spark plugs and changed the oil. (was acting up before i worked on it as well)[&o]
im also getting a random antilock failure lamp when i am driving down the road. it wont stay on for long though. thanks

 

I'll be watching this set of replies. I have an '82 XJ6, with fuel injection. A few months ago I started getting excessively rich mixtures during warmup, so much so that the car stumbled to a stop and quit. About a week ago installing new plug leads seemed to have cured the problem. It was pure chance that I happened to move the old plug leads, and found that it affected the stumbling. I don't understand why HT leads that a pack rat chewed on should affect the fuel injection, but that seems to be the case.

Sounds like vapor lock. The fuel system goes through the a/c. If it isn't working, you'll have problems. BTW, the a/c is working all the time, whether you have it on or not.
