Default What is this??

I removed the access panel in the trunk to do some work on my sunroof motor on my Series 3
This is the first time I had cause to remove this panel and upon removal i found this: Looks like it has been there for years.

Here is the actual Epitest unit.

It was apparently used for testing the D-Jetronic system, but may have been developed to test the later L-Jetronic system as well.

It's the adapter that goes between the ECU and the actual EPITEST unit; one is useless without the other....but still cool find!

Probably not cheap to replace back in the day so I reckon some absent-minded dealer technician got a few of his tail feather burned off by the boss

Cheers

Yup, I side with Doug. A tech left it there. Told boss it "disappeared".

Rem9nds me of my former career. A coverage in early home owner policies for personal property, "Mysterious Disappearance"/Almost but not quite a presumption of theft. In actual practice, "I lost it".

Over the years, I've acquired some tech tools that way. One, a hand held device to crank the engine while under the bonnet. If I had any inkling of from whence it came, I would have returned it,

I recall those slide boxed with a magnet for keys. Looked a bit like eary fuse boxes for new fuses
