Default Series 1 Fuel tank replacement

Sorry to start a new thread for this, but whilst searching for how to remove the tanks last week, I saw that someone had ditched the original tanks and replaced them with a tank built into the spare wheel well.

We have just heard that it will cost 2 arms and 3 legs to fix our tanks, we are looking at the desperate option of making our own tank.

Does anyone have any suggestions and pictures? I cannot find the link with the picture of the spare wheel tank. If someone has a link to that, it would be great thanks.

Replacement tanks are less than 300 each on ebay. Series 3 are slightly cheaper than ser 1, easy swap. New, clean, original...

Oh wow Roger! Thanks very much that was exactly what I was looking for - that seems perfect for us - we have already measured up and can get the spare in as well - mounted as far forward as possible.

A false floor will hide everything underneath, and ending up with a smaller boot capacity is absolutely no problem.

With respect to buying new, we have a problem in South Africa in that our money is worth next to nothing ( 18 to 1 to the Pound and 14 to 1 to the Dollar - on top of that you can double both Dollar and Pound amounts in shipping costs ) so buying new just isn't an option, even though we would dearly love to!!
